Introducing the 2023 Dodge Hornet: the first electrified Dodge
Dodge enters the 'Era of Electrification' with the 2023 Dodge Hornet
If you are familiar with Dodge and its vehicle offerings, it's no surprise that the brand's survival has relied heavily on retro-themed, V-8-powered muscle cars such as the popular Charger and Challenger models. However, these classics are soon to become just that: classics, considering the fact that Dodge has declared 2023 the last call for these models as the brand takes a hard left turn towards an electrified future.
Thus the introduction of the 2023 Dodge Hornet, and the dawn of the brand's 'Electrified Performance' Era. The Hornet is a subcompact SUV that shares a a similar design and parts with the Alfa Romeo Tonale. In the automotive industry, compact crossovers are becoming one of the larger and more prominent segments, but Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis says the company will position the Hornet in a different way than its competitors.
The Hornet is anticipated to be a top performer in its segment and will offer unique features, including a "Power Shot" mode for the plug-in hybrid that instantaneously provides 25 more horsepower to the vehicle. The total engine output is 288 horsepower with 383 foot-pounds of torque. The 15.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack will provide almost 50 km of electric range before the vehicle swaps over to its turbocharged 1.3-liter inline-four engine.
The plug-in model of the Hornet deemed the Hornet R/T is slated to hit dealerships next spring, while the gas-powered version, the Hornet GT is already available to order and will arrive at dealerships towards the end of 2022.
The Hornet will most assuredly put Dodge on a new playing field and is the first entirely new model that Dodge has introduced and brought into production since the Dart compact sedan in 2012.
